In an interview with RTÉ News, security expert Colin Larkin warns that more money needs to be invested in Ireland to counter the threat of hackers.
This comes after the attempt to hack into the Garda IT system last Thursday, August 4th. Mr. Larkin says Ireland is spending very little on cybersecurity compared to other countries, “We’re a small country with small resources,” Mr Larkin explains. “If you look at the UK they’re spending roughly £200m per year and have just committed to spend over £1b on cybersecurity over the next while. The US have $19b of a budget. We need to spend a lot more and invest resources within the Gardaí and other organisations like that.”
